RE:PLAY

RE:PLAY: A Nostalgic Art Exhibition Celebrating Recycling, Art, and Technology

RE:PLAY transformed our shelter pavilion into a vibrant and immersive experience that celebrated the intersection of art, technology, and sustainability. The space was reimagined with painted recycled playground equipment, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that resonated with visitors of all ages. Interactive installations, including spring riders, a slide decking platform, and captivating canvases, were strategically placed throughout the pavilion, inviting guests to engage with their surroundings.

The color scheme for these playground objects drew inspiration from the beloved Paddlepop rainbow ice cream, a treat that filled the long summer days of the artists’ childhoods. This nostalgic palette not only evoked fond memories but also highlighted the potential of repurposed materials in creative expression. One of the standout features of the exhibition was the collaborative effort of our co-creation artists, who hand-painted small images on the slide. These images sprang to life through Augmented Reality (AR) animations when scanned with a smartphone camera, seamlessly blending the physical and digital worlds.

Capturing The Moments

Pushing the boundaries of creative expression further, we integrated traditional art forms with cutting-edge technology. A robotic arm named Tessa took center stage, creating art in real-time by synchronizing its brush strokes to the rhythm of live beatboxing performed by renowned beatbox battle champion Dharni. This unique fusion of art and technology showcased the limitless possibilities when creativity knows no bounds.

We are immensely grateful for the support of our co-creation artists, whose talents and visions brought this exhibition to life. Key sponsors, including the Arc community, Mandala Club, and the National Youth Council (NYC), played a vital role in providing The Red Box’s sheltered pavilion space located at Somerset. Their contributions ensured that RE:PLAY could flourish as a platform for artistic expression and community engagement.

Overall, RE:PLAY stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and nostalgia. It serves as a reminder that art can inspire, engage, and provoke thought, all while championing sustainability through recycling. We look forward to continuing to explore the intersection of art and technology, fostering creativity and inspiring future generations to embrace their artistic journeys.
